How I Got the Shot

The beautiful details in flowers are amazing.

 

To capture those details in this photo, I used a macro lens on my digital camera. I wanted to have the entire flower sharp.

Macro lenses have a narrow depth of field (DOF) which means only a small portion of the flower would be sharp if I only took one image.

So I took multiple images of this flower, each photo focused at a slightly deeper depth than the previous. Then the images were combined into one using software to make one focus-stacked image.

Of course, if you prefer, you could take just one image and leave the rest blurred.
